The Sforza Fortress in Soncino
The best-maintained castle in Lombardy
In 1473 the Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza asked the architect from Cremona Bartolomeo Gadio to build the fortress of Soncino. The building is completely made in bricks and it was built in three years. In the four corners of the building there are four towers and one of the underground rooms was used as a dungeon. With an inner stair you can reach the Captain Tower made up of two different spaces covered by two lunette vaults and connected by an inner stair. In case of necessity this part could become an independent fort to defend the fortress from the enemies.
