Museo del Violino
Da Stradivari a oggi. Il Museo del Violino custodisce 5 secoli di storia della liuteria. E un avveniristico teatro
your passport
The Violin Museum represents the deep bond established between Cremona and violin making.
It contains the Stradivari finds, the reconstruction of a violin making workshop and above all two collections of inestimable value: the Treasure trove and the Friends of Stradivari, as well as a collection dedicated to the expression of the best contemporary violin making in the world.
Thanks to its multimedia, the Violin Museum is suitable for everyone, experts or not, because it involves the visitor by exploiting his senses and emotions.
The violin making workshop:
It is a curious and somewhat magical place, where you can let yourself be fascinated by the skillful and wise gestures of the craftsmen who, today as in the past, know how to draw a sweet and melodious sound like the human voice from wood and paints.
The treasure chest:
The collection contains the 12 most significant instruments of the great Cremonese violin making school, from the oldest, Andrea Amati's Charles IX from 1566, to the most recent, Simone Fernando Sacconi's violin from 1941.
Friends of Stradivari:
It is an international network among those who own, use or keep masterpieces by the great Cremonese masters. It is a permanent exhibition inside the museum of important instruments of the great Cremonese masters, belonging to public and private collections from all over the world.
Permanent collection of contemporary violin making:
It brings together the instruments awarded with a gold medal at the "Antonio Stradivari" International Triennial Stringed Instrument Competition. Established in 1976, the competition is a competition so important that it is considered the Olympics of violin making.
Inside the Museum there are also the Auditorium, awarded in 2016 by the Industrial Design association, and two prestigious laboratories: the non-invasive diagnostic one of the University of Pavia and the acoustic one of the Polytechnic of Milan.
It is also possible to attend auditions of ancient instruments, which are played in a calendar of appointments for the public.
